~ • (Page 21 •
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-99-076
INSPECTION DATE 4-27-2000 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS SSS
OBSERVATIONS
This was a brief partial inspection conducted as part of the Division's on-going monitoring program.
The site has been mined out with slopes and pit floor regraded to approved conditions. It appears that topsoil has been
applied, but replacement depth was not verified during this inspection.
Vegetation was germinating on the regraded area, but was too immature to identify.
Near the middle of the pit, some water was emerging from the pit floor and trickling down toward the south side of the
pit. There was no appreciable accumulation of water in the pit. It appears that groundwater may be slightly exposed by
the excavation. The flow may also have been attributable to storm events that occurred earlier in the week. The flow was
not appreciable. The operator should monitor this situation to determine the source, extent and duration of the flow. If the
exposure continues, and is determined to be groundwater exposure, the pit floor elevation may need to be raised to prevent
future groundwater exposure. The permit indicates that a minimum of two feet of cover will be maintained over the
groundwater table elevation. This was not listed as a problem in this report because it is unknown if the source of the flow
is groundwater. However, Elam will need to evaluate the situation and respond to the Division as to the source of these
flows.
The pit appeared to be approximately 8 feet deep with side slope grades at an estimated 4:1.
No erosion was noted at the site.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to:
Division of Minerals and Geology, 701 Camino Del Rio, Room 125, Durango, Colorado 81301, Attn: Steve Shuey, phone
no. 970-247-5062.
I & E Contact Address cc: Tom Gillis, DMG
^ CE
NAME Tom Loaue ^ BL
OPERATOR Elam Construction.
