III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection conducted by Joe Dudash of the Colorado DMG. Bill Beaz
represented the operator.
Hvdroloev
There was a little water in pond B, probably due to washdown of the mine road entrance. Pond C
had blackish colored water just over the primary discharge pipe. The gated valve was closed. The
blackish colored water was also probably due to washdown water. Pond D was dry. All of the
pond spillways appeared to be functional. Pond embankments appeared to be geo-technically and
erosionally stable.
All of the culverts and ditches around the mine site were functional. However, the uppermost
portion of the west collection ditch at the gob pile will need some cleaning soon. Straw bales at
the SAE's were also in place and were functional. Silt fence was properly installed downgradient
of pond B.
Roads
The paved haul road, recently resealed, was in excellent condition. The guazd rail was in place.
The haul road to the gob pile was in good condition, as was the road berm. The road from the
portal bench to the water tank bench was also in good condition.
Signs and Markers
Mine ID signs were up at the appropriate locations and contained the required information.
Surface disturbance mazkers were up at the appropriate locations as well.
Topsoil Stockpiles
The main topsoil stockpile had a good cover of vegetation. The collection and diversion ditches
were functional. Straw bales were in place in the collection ditch notch. No erosional gullies
were observed. The topsoil sign was up.
The gob pile topsoil stockpile and the coverfill topsoil stockpile were moderately vegetated.
Topsoil signs were present. There were no signs of erosional gullying.
