5;
(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-2001-088
INSPECTION DATE 10-5-2001
OBSERVATIONS
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS SSS
This was apre-operation inspection conducted to verify details specified in the new 110c permit application package.
The site is located at the end of a ridge that is treeless. Vegetation is dominated by cheatgrass with numerous patches of
prickly pear cactus and some sage. Test pits excavated for the subdivision perk tests show that portions of Units 5-7 have
an overburden cover of approximatery 3 feet. The overburden appears to have a significant sand component. This observation
is supported by the rapid percolation that was reportedly experienced during the perk tests in pits that were excavated entirely
in overburden. There is a gradual but definite color change between the topsoil and the subsoils. The topsoil depth is estimated
at 4-7 inches in areas where overburden exists. The topsoil over areas with overburden is somewhat free of rock while the
thin veneer of topsoil in areas without overburden has a significant gravel component.
Underground utility lines were being installed along both sides of 35 road adjacent to the west side of the permit area. The
location of these utilities, plus the existing above ground poweriine poles are all below the level of the pit floor and should not
be adversely affected by the operation.
Old trash dumping areas containing cans, bottles, etc. are located along the southeast corner of the site along the rim of the
ridge. These areas will need to be cleaned up and removed during mining.
No existing permanent man-made structures were noted other than those specified in the permit application.
No signs of surface or groundwater were noted in the permit area.
The operator's representative inquired whether or not the operator could stockpile excavated material from this operation on
the adjacent subdivision area. He was informed that only material to be used on that subdivision could be stockpiled there.
All material to be used elsewhere must be stored within the permit area until it is removed.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Steve Shuey at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3r° Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone number 970-243-6368.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Garv Rinderle
OPERATOR Garv Rinderle Construction.
