(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-iaaF-n~a
INSPECTION DATE: ro/lama INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: TAS
OBSERVATIONS
1. A site inspection of the Barnard Quarry was conducted as part of the Division's on-going 4-year inspection program.
The Division last inspected the site in July, 2000. Present during the inspection was Mr. Chester Barnard.
2. The Nolan Quarry is approximately 3.0 miles north of Lyons, Colorado. The quarry is permitted for a total of 5.6 acres.
The operator has posted a financial warranty of $6,100. The post-mining land use is wildlife habitat.
3. A permit I.D. sign was posted at the entrance to the quarry and permit boundary markers were also noted. All quarry
disturbances were found to be within the permit boundary. Attached is a map received as part of the January 23, 2004
Annual Report which depicts the location of current disturbances at the quarry.
4. There are approximately 2.5 acres of active disturbance at the quarry. The operator has already backfilled, where
possible, various portions of the quarry with overburden. The reclamation plan specifies that disturbed slopes will be
regarded to a slope of 3:1. Available topsoil will then be re-spread to a depth of 6 inches. Reclaimed slopes will be re-
vegetated with a grass mix. The operator has been diligently working toward making the quarry operation more efficient
and minimizing the acreage of disturbance at any one time. Available topsoil has been stockpiled for future use during
reclamation. Based on the level of disturbance noted, this inspector finds that the financial warranty is adequate to
complete reclamation at the quarry.
5. A brief discussion was held concerning re-vegetation and effective methods for establishment of trees and/or shrubs at
the Barnard Quarry. For further information, and possible technical assistance, this inspector recommends that the
operator contact the following: Dr. Ed Redente -Restoration Ecology at Colorado State University (970) 491-6542; and
Colorado State Forestry Department (970) 491-6303.
6. There were no problems noted during the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Mr. Chester Barnard
OPERATOR: Barnard Quarries
STREET: PO Box 86, 245 Evans St.
CITY/STATEJ2IP: I yons, CO 80540
cc: Carl Mount, DMG (via E-Mail)
