(Pa§e 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-2001-085
INSPECTION DATE 10/19/01
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
This was a pre-operation inspection of the 124ch Estates Sand & Gravel Mine, Application No.
M-2001-085 conducted by Erica Crosby of the Colorado Division of Minerals & Geology. Les
Ewegen of Adams County RV Park, LLC, dba 124c° Estates Partners and Scott Keen of Banks &
Gesso were present during the inspection.
Adams County RV Park, LLC, dba 124`° Estates Partners filed a complete 112 Construction
Materials Application with the Division on August 13, 2001. The Division's recommendation due
date is set for November 12, 2001. To date, three written objections to the application have
been filed with the Division.
The mine site is located approximately 1/2 mile of the South Platte River in Henderson,
Colorado. Surface and mineral ownership is owned by the applicant. The applicant intends
to mine approximately 500,000 CY of sand and gravel from the historic 34-acre site.
The proposed postmining land use is developed water resource. The applicant will construct
a compacted clay liner after mining is complete, approximately 1,000 acre-feet of water
storage capacity. The reclamation of the lined ponds will take place concurrently. The City
of Brighton will ultimately purchase the water storage facility from the applicant.
The historic mine area is approximately 10'-15' below ground surface. Groundwater is exposed
over half of the mined area and the water depth ranges from 3' to 10.' The applicant
proposes to dry mine the site. Roughly 60-acre feet of water will initially need to be
pumped from the pit to facilitate the dry mining technique. The applicant states that
shallow wells and deep aquifer wells are adjacent to the property. The depth of these wells
needs to be clarified in the application.
It appears that all structures within 200 feet of the affected area are identified on the
Pre-Mining and Mining Plan Map (Exhibit C). Such structures include houses & outbuildings,
alluvial wells, pipelines, overhead utility lines, irrigation ditches and fences. The
application states that notarized affidavits will be obtained prior to mining within 200 feet
of the structures.
I 8 E Contact Addreee
[' CE
NAME Les Ewegen [' BL
OPERATOR Adams County RV Park, LLC j~ FS
STREET P.O.Box 1161 (4545 East 60`° Ave.) j' HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP Commerce Cit y.
