(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1996-052
INSPECTION DATE 11/08/06
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
This was an inspection of the Del Camino Sand & Gravel Mine conducted by Erica Crosby of the
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology. Nathan Merkison of Ready Mixed Concrete Company
was present during the inspection.
The purpose of the inspection was to determine the status of the site, and the amount of
financial warranty to be posted.
The Del Camino permit was issued on August 4, 1998 to the Owens Brothers Concrete Company.
The permit was transferred to Ready Mixed Concrete Company on April 26, 2005. During the
transfer of the permit application, the Division determined that the bond should be increased
from $49,450.00 to $327,632.00. Following the increase of the bond, the operator requested
that the site be placed in Temporary Cessation. However, the operator withdrew the request
for Temporary Cessation on October 21, 2005.
The Del Camino site was not active during the inspection. According to the operator, the
site was last mined in March of 2005. Phase 1 has been mined and partially reclaimed.
Slopes have been graded to 3h:ly, and topsoil has been replaced. Revegetation is scheduled
to be completed this fall. Silt piles and product piles are stored at the process area that
is located in Phase 3.
The operator hoe the following options regarding the bond amount due within 60-days of
receipt of this inspection report:
1. Submit a technical revision to limit the mined area at any given time. Currently the
permit states that "reclamation will take glace concurrently with mining and no more
than 5-10 aces will be disturbed at any one time before reclamation commences."
However, the operator must be aware that the bond was determined based on the "worst-
case disturbance" of draining the pit and reclaiming in Phase 2. Regardless the size
of the mined area, the Division would be required to drain the pit to facilitate any
remaining reclamation work. If the operator specifies the length of highwall that
would be necessary to reclaim, then the cost for grading the highwall may be reduced.
See attached estimate for further detail, or
2. Submit an application for Temporary Cessation and estimate a cost to reclaim the site
based on the current conditions, or
3. Post the difference in bond to total the amount of $327,632.00 (The Division currently
holds $49,450.00).
I & 8 Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Bill Timmons ^ BL
OPERATOR Ready Mixed Concrete Company ^ FS
STREET 4395 Washington ^ HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP Denver, CO 80216 ^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
cc: Carl Mount; DMG (via a-mail)
Enclosure; Reclamation Cost Estimate
CERTIFIED MAIL 7003 1680 0000 6431 3880
