(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: ~-X980-~7~
INSPECTION DATE: 1,J~5/nx INSPECTOR~SINITIALS: ~;?
OBSERVATIONS
1. This inspection was conducted by the Division of Minerals and Geology's as part of its monitoring
program for Hard Rock and Metals 1 10(2) permits. Present at the inspection were Kate Pickford, DMG,
and Carl Dismant, Bachelor Silver Mines Co. Weather at the time of the inspection was clear, calm, and
approximately 75 degrees.
2. Access to the site was restricted by the water level in a drainage that must be crossed to access the
site. A sign is posted at the entrance. Mr. Dismant stated that the portal at the site has been kept open
to supply ventilation to the mine to allow for the tourist activities at the Bachelor Mine Syracuse portal.
He further stated that material well be removed from around the portal and a culvert will be installed
later this year to keep the portal open.
3. Past grading of the waste rock pile appears to be stable. The rip rap identified in Technical Revision (TR-
OT) has not been placed at the toe of the slope.
4. A drainage conveys discharge from the portal off the site. This drainage diverts the discharge around a
waste rock pile adjacent to the nearby Dexter Creek and empties into the creek. The last inspection
report for this site cited the discharge of surface water as a problem in that the operator does not
possess a discharge permit for the site (See Problem 1, Page 3). The operator has supplied water quality
data to the Division related to this discharge but has not acquired a discharge permit. Mr. Dismant
stated that the costs related to a discharge permit are prohibitive for Bachelor Silver Mines and
suggested that the drainage could be filled with large rip rap, resulting in an underground discharge to
the creek. The Division is willing to accept this solution to the discharge at the site (see corrective
actions, page 3).
5. A bond recalculation was conducted as a part of this inspection. The current bond amount of $6,536.00
is adequate for final reclamation of the site.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Carl F.
