A pre-operation site inspection was conducted of "The Shores", located approximately 1 <br />mile east of I-25 along weld County Road 24 and 3 miles north of Firestone. Present during <br />the inspection were Barb Brunk of Rocky Mountain Consultants, Russ Pickering of Aspen <br />Environmental Services, and Amber Travsky of Real West Natural Resource Consulting. <br />2. The undisturbed land is currently used as agricultural cropland. Following mining, the <br />site will be reclaimed to recreational use with two (2) large lakes. Ms. Brunk indicated <br />that the applicant is in the process of acquiring water rights to account for evaporative <br />loss during the mining and reclamation phases of the operation. <br />3. There are numerous irrigation ditches that occur within the proposed permit area. The <br />ditches are well vegetated with grasses and in most cases are 6-12 inches higher than the <br />surrounding land to be disturbed by mining. Ms. Brunk indicated that the applicant is also <br />working on securing agreements/damage waivers from the owners of the various ditches where <br />mining will occur within 200 feet of the ditch. The ditches exhibited little or no evidence <br />of surface erosion, with the exception of the irrigation ditches immediately north of the <br />existing feedlot. <br />4. Slides were taken of the cropland and various irrigation ditches, and are included in this <br />report. <br />5.
