Below are comments on fhe inspection. The comments inducts discussion of observations made
during the Inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the Inspection
and the fads or evidence supporting the enforcement action. '
On October 23, 1997, William J. Carter from the Division of minerals and Geology Performed a
complete inspection of the Ohio Creek number two mine In Gunnison County. The weather during
the inspection was dowdy and cool.
Availability of Records:
• The old records are available at the Gumrison County Courthouse in the office of the Clerk end
Recorder.
• Included in a folder, of documents that had been posted in the peat, is a note stating that the
complete and up-to-date records for revoked mines are available at the DMG ot&ce in Denver.
Slrms sect Markers•
The e~dsting signs are out of date. New mgrs }fisting the DMG are in the process of being made, and will
be installed as soon ae they are available.
j3ydrologic Balance:
• The collection ditches and the sedimentation pond were dry during the inspection.
• The diversion ditch above the mine site appears to have a low section that could be causing a
concentration of water into the reclaimed area. This will be checked in the Spring when snow
melting fie active.
Slides and Dama¢e:
No settling or clumping of the portal area was observed at the time of the inspection.
Subsideuce•
It appears that there is eigrificant subsidence above the mine site. This subsidence does not appear to be
recent but rather from the past. Subsidence could be part of the reason for the apparent settling of the
diversion ditch above the disturbed area.
