A site inspection of the North Weld Gravel pit was conducted as part of the Division's on-going 4year inspection
program. The site is located between Pierce and Nunn along Weld County Road 39. Present during the inspection
was Mr. Leroy Bellmore.
2. The North Weld Gravel pit is permitted for a total of 80 acres with a maximum disturbance at any one time of 20
acres. The operator has posted a financial warranty of $10,000 in the form of a Certificate of Deposit. The post-
mining land use is agriculture (private pasture).
3. An entrance sign and permit boundary markers were posted as required by Rule 3.1.12.
4. The North Weld Gravel pit is an active pit although there was no mining activity at the time of inspection. This
inspector noted approximately 2-3 acres of pit disturbance with pit excavation 8-10' below ground surface. Pit walls
were estimated to vary from 0.5:1 to 1:1 slopes. The pit floor was dry and verifies the operator has limited
excavation to above the groundwater table as specified in the mine plan. Topsoil and overburden has been stockpiled
around the perimeter of the pit excavation. The topsoil stockpile was stable with vegetative cover. This inspector
also noted 3 flatbed trailer loads of non-roadable mining equipment along the eastern side of the pit. The total
mining disturbance was estimated to be 4-5 acres. The existing financial warranty is adequate to complete
reclamation of the disturbed area.
5. A review of the reclamation plan indicates that pit walls will be graded to a slope of 4:1 and that all disturbed slopes
will be topsoiled and revegetated.
6. Mr. Bellmore indicated an interest is selling the property and transferring the permit to another operator. The permit
transfer, succession of operator process was discussed. Attached to this report is an application form for a transfer of
permit. Mr. Bellmore is encouraged to call the Division if any questions arise during preparation of the permit transfer
forms.
7. No problems were noted during the inspection. Overall, the operation was clean and well managed.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Lerov A.
