A routine monitoring inspection was made of the Bennett Sand & Gravel Pit #2 as part of <br />the Division's 4-year inspection program. The Bennett Pit #2 is located 4+ miles northeast <br />of Bennett. There was no one present during the inspection. . <br />2. Bennett Sand & Gravel Pit #2 is permitted for a total of 47.75 acres. Dry mining <br />techniques will be employed with a phased mine plan. No groundwater will be exposed. The <br />operator has posted a financial warranty of $70,000 in the form of a Corporate Surety. The <br />post-mining land use is rangeland. This inspector verifies that the site is adequately <br />bonded for the existing and planned disturbance at the Bennett Pit #2. <br />3. The operator is mining in the Phase 1 area. There was approximately 5-7 acres of total <br />disturbance at the time of inspection. The was no groundwater exposed in the active pit <br />area, approximately 3-4 acres in size. This inspector estimates the pit highwalls to be from <br />10-25 feet in height. <br />4. There was no entrance sign posted as required by Rule 3.1.12 (please see attached copy). <br />This is considered to be a problem that will require corrective actions.
