(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-2004-053
INSPECTION DATE 11/11/04
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS RCO
This pre-operation inspection was pertormed by the Division during the review period for this new 110 permit application. The
operator was contacted about the scheduled time and date of the inspection. The operator's representative named on page
one was present during the inspection.
The site consists of level rangeland, dominated by sagebrush, with minor amounts of blue grama and rabbitbrush. The site
exhibits evidence of cultivation and fencing dating from many years in the past. There are no structures on or near the site.
There is a fairly uniform reddish topsoil layer across the 9.5 acres to be mined. It is not known if there is a caliche layer
underlying the topsoil layer. Though the topsoil contains some small amount of gravel, it should be carefully saved for
reclamation, separately from other materials mined from the pit.
Mining will begin on the east end, and occur in phases, with no more than 2 acres affected at a time. As the pit advances
toward the west, reclamation will be carried out on areas that are no longer to be disturbed. Brush and topsoil will be stripped
prior to mining. The size of the area and length of time that an area remains exposed after stripping will be minimized to
minimize the potential for soil erosion.
The reclamation cost was calculated and the bond estimate was sent to the operator prior to the inspection. Upon submittal
and acceptance of the bond, the permit will be issued. When the site is permitted, the operator must place a permit ID sign at
the entrance to the site and mark the boundary of the 9.5-acre permitted area. Please refer to Construction Materials Rule
3.1.12 for a description of the information to be contained on the ID sign.
No further items were observed during the inspection. Responses to this inspection report should be directed to the Division of
Minerals and Geology, 701 Camino del Rio, Room 125, Durango, Colorado 81301, Attn: Bob Oswald; phone no.970-247-5193.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Joe Rivera
OPERATOR Rivera's Excavation
STREET PO Box 24
CITY/STATE2IP Amalia NM 87512
cc: Harry Posey, DMG
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WOCD (CH)
^ OTHER
