(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1997-053
INSPECTION DATE 3/30/2005
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS SSS
This was a routine monitoring inspection conducted as part of DMG's ongoing monitoring program for permitted mines in
Colorado.
The mine identification sign and affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with Rule 3.1.12.
No significant erosional features were noted on the affected areas of the site.
This site does have a component of tamarisk that is invading the site. Per the January 19, 2005 ruling of the Mined Land
Reclamation Board, tamarisk is a noxious weed that must be controlled on mine sites. However, affected areas of sites that
are in final reclamation as of January 19, 2005 are grandfathered and are not required to manage tamarisk at this time. Due to
the highly competitive nature of this species, DMG highly recommends that tamarisk control measures be implemented
throughout the permit area, grandfathered or not. All but the 100 foot excavation buffer on the east side of this pit appears to
apply to the grandfathering clause. The buffer appears to not have been reclaimed to date and does still have a partial
stockpile of gravel on the north end.
There are portions of the north and west pit embankments that almost appear to be graveled due to the high rock component
on the surface. These areas do not support much beneficial vegetation. The permittee will need to replace topsoil on these
areas and redo the revegetation tasks on these areas. Possibly this can be accomplished when the gravel stockpile is depleted
and the buffer area is to be reclaimed.
The reclamation cost estimate for this site was updated 4 years ago and includes tasks for full reclamation of this site. W ith the
site being completely graded to final grade and most of the site already in final reclamation, it follows that the current
reclamation bond is adequate to complete reclamation of this site.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Steve Shuey at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone number 970-243-6368.
I & E Contact Address
NAME
OPERATOR
STREET
CITY/STATE/ZIP
Ed Settle
Grand Junction Pioe and Suoolv Co.
P.
