<br /> <br />OBSERVATIONS <br />This was a normal monitoring inspection conducted by Tony Waldron of DMG along with Mike <br />Elder of Robinson Brick Company. The site is located approximately 10 miles northwest of <br />Kiowa, Colorado. The proposed pit is situated immediately adjacent to and on the east side <br />of an unnamed tributary to Kiowa Creek that is approximately 2 miles west of the main stem <br />of Kiowa Creek and just south of Elbert County Road 174. <br />This site was permitted in 1993 and has yet to be disturbed, however, the operator's <br />representative indicated that mining would probably begin on this site very soon. There was <br />a mine identification sign which contained the required information posted on the fence at <br />the permit boundary which parallels the county road. Prior to actually disturbing the site, <br />the remaining affected area boundaries must be clearly marked. The site is located on a <br />gentle west facing side-slope rising out of the drainage. The vegetative community consists <br />of typical short-grass prairie containing predominantly blue grama and sideoats grama with <br />a fair smattering of mid-grasses such as prairie sandreed, little bluestem and even a little <br />bit of big bluestem with western wheatgrass in wetter areas such as drainage bottoms.
