The Juniper Mountain Gravel Pit is a 112c operation. Mr. Don Steele and Mr. Bennett
Steele, representatives for Moffat Limestone accompanied the inspector on this inspection.
The Juniper Mountain Pit is located southeast ofMaybell, Colorado. The site is active with approximately 15 acres
disturbed and approximately 4 to 5 of that is under reclamation.
The proper sign is noted at the entrance to the site. Permit boundaries are t-posts and fence lines for the most part.
Total permitted acreage is currently 60 acres and disturbances are well within this azea.
The site has several stockpiles of processed gravels. Currently there is no equipment on site, but evidence of recent
loading out was noted. There is very little excavation currently. Highwalls aze maybe 5 to 8 feet and approximately
SO lineaz feet. No deep pit azea is currently noted.
As noted above, there aze approximately 4 to 5 acres under reclamation. Grasses are doing very well with an
estimated cover of around 60% on north aspect slopes and 25% on pit floor. Crested wheatgrass, a brome and some
rabbit brush were noted as well as some annual grasses. There is some thistle in the azea, however the operator does
supply certified weed free materials and has an aggressive weed control plan. Sloping is 3:1 or better in reclaimed
areas.
Stormwater and erosion control measures appeaz to be working as designed. No off-site damage or erosion issues
were observed.
Overall, given the nature of the mining, the site is clean and orderly. No problems or issues aze noted.
The site is relatively new so no updating of bond calculations is necessary.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 30t, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no. 970-241-1117.
I & E Contact Address cc:
^ CE
NAME: Darryl Steele ^ BL
OPERATOR: Moffat Limestone ^ FS
STREET: P.O.
