(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # N-8d-069
INSPECTION DATE 06119/96 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ACO
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was performed by the Division ae part of its monitoring of 110 permits. The
operator was contacted about the inspection, and the operator was able to be present for it.
A sign and markers were present. A dirt road leads to the permit area through sage covered
hills, and the sign 1e posted at the entrance to the permit. Corners were marked by 1/2-inch
rebar, extending approx 2 feet high. Much of the permit area had been scraped clean of sage
in the past and some of that had had the topsoil scraped back to the permit's edges, leaving
a distinct rectangle which delineated the permit boundary.
The stripped topsoil stockpiled at the margins of the permit appeared stable: the piles were
low and vegetated. There was a sufficient amount to perform the required reclamation.
There was no equipment on the site, nor any structures or processing facilities. Hining is
performed by pushing down material to the pit floor, leaving 3:1 elopes on the walla of the
pit. Mining ie no deeper than 10 feet. Product stockpiles are kept within the pit until
used. There are no oneite roads to reclaim.
Due to the 3:1 elopes maintained during mining, the adequate supply of topsoil, short push
distances, and the approximately one-acre size of the total disturbance (within this two-acre
permit area), the present financial warranty of $5000.00 ie found to be sufficient to perform
the reclamation according to the approved plan.
There were no problems observed during this inspection.
I & E Contact Addreae
NAME Fred Schmalz
OPERATOR Schmalz Construction Ltd.
STREET PO Box 1105
CITY/STATE/ZIP Gunnison CO 81230
cc: Jim Stevene/ DMG
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
^ OTHER
