MINESITE INSPECTION NARRATIVE 1
MARCH 30, 1994
Flatiron Co
Box 229
Boulder, Colorado 80306
Bourg Strip
Personnel Present during the Inspection:
Randy Division of Geology and Minerals
Gary Fritz Albuquerque Field Office\Office of Surface Mining
x`244 - - -
Weather and Ground Conditions During the Inspection:
Warm and clear with snow cover in patches across the mine and
loadout facility
;~,~~ENERAL COMMENTS
This was a complete oversight inspection. The State was notified
regarding my intent to inspect and was able to send someone with me
to,ponduct a. joint inspection.
The mine has been reclaimed as of 1988. The area was graded,
resoiled and planted with cover in phases beginning as -early as--------
1984 and was completed in 1988. There are no sediment ponds on the
reclaimed mine. Drainacje control was devised through sedcad and
built to contain storm runoff from a design storm event. I have
not been able to view the area in any detail during the last two
oversight inspections because of snow cover. Patches of area were
open, byt it was not clear as to how the drainage control system was
oQe~rgiting.,.There was still snow cover on some of the areas but
more of .it was exposed~~his time than ..had been in the past. There
Yl~g,. no~ sign of runoff occurring during this inspection.
Apparently there is some because the State has permitted the
pperator,~o leave a dra.i age structure~.a gully per permit approval
July, 26,, ]`9~~Q,, that is~~ocated near t~_southern perimeter of the
d~~uz}ied area. A
numbep,Up£irock check d~~~ were noted in the arroyo.
Another question raised. during the inspection was raised about the
.•.
need to;cgr„tify the drainage controlilpy~stem on an annual basis.
the replyu, was that the requiremeln't ,„for certification is not
included.,i~n the regulations at this.1time.
