CJ
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-96-079
INSPECTSbN DATE 04/12/99
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
This was an inspection of the Barnard Quarry conducted by Erica Crosby of the Colorado
Division of Minerals and Geology. Chester Barnard of Barnard Quarries was present during the
inspection. Weather conditions on site were clear and warm. Ground conditions were dry.
The mine site is located roughly 3 miles north of Lyons on Steamboat Mountain. The permit
area is 5.6 acres in size. The permit boundary was marked, with exception to the northeast
corner. The operator will need to mark the north east corner of the permit area. A mine
identification sign was posted, and all information appeared accurate.
The quarry was actively being mined using hand labor and loaders. Mining is taking place
from the southwest to the northeast, following the contour of the hill. Overburden material
is roughly 4 feet to a feet thick. The material is removed and placed east and south in the
permit area to be used later for reclamation. The storage of overburden material is
progressing towards the south. If the operator intends to store overburden and topsoil
material outside the permit area, the 110c application will need to be amended to incorporate
additional acreage.
The reclamation plan states that slopes will be reclaimed to 4h:1v and 3h:ly. It appears
sufficient overburden exists to reclaim the quarry to this slope. The Division currently
holds a certificate of deposit in the amount of $6,100.00, which is an adequate bond at this
point in time.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Chester Harnard
OPERATOR Barnard Quarries
STREET P.O.
