III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Joe Dudash and Jim Stark of the
Colorado DMG. This is a forfeited site. The weather was clear at the start of the
inspection but a thunderstorm was coming up at the end of the inspection. Valley
mine operators have stated that the area has received heavy rains recently.
Roads
The county road was in good shape although there was evidence of a cleanup
operation on the road. Recent heavy rains caused mud to flow onto the road from
the north road cut.
Hydroloov
There was only a small amount of water in the pond. The concrete spillway was
functional. The pond outslopes and inslopes were well vegetated and appeared
to be stable.
There was no gullying observed at the reclaimed mine site. The easternmost
culvert needs maintenance at the inlet and at the outlet.
The alluvial well on the west side of the site had its wellcap secure.
Signs and Markers
The stream buffer marker signs were up along the river.
C: \ms 971hawksnest\insp0899
