III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the Seneca II Mine conducted by Erica Crosby of DMG. No
company representative was present during the inspection. The Seneca II Mine status is active.
Both the Wadge and Wolf Creek Pits are open and reclamation has started. The inspection
involved viewing two aerial photographs taken by Harry Ranney of DMG on April 1, 1998.
Weather conditions on site appeared clear. Snow cover was scattered throughout the mine site.
Backfilling & Grading Backfilling and grading activity was noted in the upper most portion of the
Wolf Creek Pit. No equipment was noted in the vicinity of the reclaimed area. The upper 500
feet of the pit has been partially reclaimed. The spoil piles in this area have been reduced and
pushed into the bottom of the pit. The North-East highwall still remains in this area. No
backfilling or grading was noted in the Wadge Pit. The Wadge Pit has a small amount of coal
remaining. All backfilling and grading is scheduled for completion in 1998.
