As indicated on the testing frequency
table provided in Weekly Report 3 ("Earthworks CQA Test Summary and Testing Frequency,
Phase I 1995 Construction"), material quantities aze taken from ICC Daily Reports to Ford,
Bacon & Davis, and represent the quantity of material placed rather than the material ready
for testing. Although ICC reports indicate that they have placed 27,000 cubic yards of Soil
Liner Fill in the Phase I heap ]each pad through June 10, much of that material has only been
roughly graded, and has not been compacted.
The amount of Soil Liner Fill prepared and ready for testing can alternately be calculated from
the area of geomembrane deployed in the heap leach pad. According to our measurements,
approximately 330,450 square feet of 80 mil geomembrane has been deployed in the pad
through June 10. At an assumed depth of 12", the calculated amount of prepared and
approved Soil Liner Fill underlying geomembrane is 12,240 cubic yards. Attached is a table
showing Soil Liner Fill testing frequencies based on both Soil Liner Fill quantities provided by
ICC and calculated by the method described above. In the second instance, Soil Liner Fill
testing frequencies are greater than the specified frequencies for sieve analysis, Atterberg
Limit determination, and nuclear density testing. One permeability test is pending, and an
additional compaction test was completed on June t3.
Please let me know if I can provide any additional clarification.
