MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-81-277
INSPECTI"JN DATE 06/28/99
(Page 2)
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
This was a pre-operation inspection of the Beech Hill Quarries conducted by Erica Crosby of
the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology. Mike Sherman of the Division of Wildlife (DOW)
accompanied the inspection. Mike Loukonen of Loukonen Brothers was also present. The 112-
conversion application was deemed complete for filing on May 14, 1999. The Division's
decision due date is scheduled for August 12, 1999. Site conditions were clear and warm.
Ground conditions were dry.
The seven (7) quarries proposed by the applicant were inspected. Each of the quarries is
currently being mined under the 110 application. The permit area is 190 acres, but the
disturbance for each quarry will be enlarged under the 112 permit from 2.5 to 5 acres.
Disturbances will cover the quarry area, staging areas, topsoil piles and waste rock piles.
The applicant will also need to include any roads currently used for the mining operation.
Expansion of the quarries will disturb additional acreage dominated by Ponderosa Pine trees.
The DOW did not find any evidence of raptors nesting directly on the proposed mine site.
The operator stated that the road adjacent to the Kupio Pit would be mined through and
relocated. The operator will need to address this issue in the permit application. A
discussion of this issue is included in the DMG 7/7/99 adequacy review letter.
I & E Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Mike Loukonen ^ BL
OPERATOR Loukonen Brothers ^ FS
STREET 12993 N.
