MINE ID # OR PROSPI
INSPECTION DATE:
INSPECTORS INITIALS: KAP
OBSERVATIONS
I
i
1. This inspection was performed as a follow up inspection to the one conducted on September 15, 2005.
Present at the inspection was Kate Pickford, DMG. Weather at the time of the inspection was clear,
calm, and approximately 60 degrees.
2. The inspection conducted in Septe ber of 2005 reveled that water was present in this pit. The
inspection indicated that Park Cou ~ ty would need to either backfill the pit to cover the water with at
least two feet of material or acquire the proper permits from the Office of the State Engineer to allow for
the exposure of groundwater at the site. Park County notified the Division on April 10, 2006 that it was
processing a water augmentation plan substitute supply plan for the site and had been in contact with
the local water commissioner.
3. Inspections of other Park County pits were conducted on June 15, 2006 with Doug Keith, from Park
County Road and Bridge. During those inspections, Mr. Keith stated that the water that had previously
been in this pit was gone, and was likely water related to runoff and precipitation, which had
evaporated. During this inspection; if was observed that less water is present in the pit than was there
during the September 2005 inspection, but that some water still remains exposed in the pit. It is this
inspector's interpretation that the porous material being mined would not retain surface water runoff for
a period of months while it evaporates, but that the water in the pit is exposed groundwater. The
groundwater level fluctuates seasoi ally and therefore the water level in the pit fluctuates.
4. Park County has still not submitted any documentation to the Division indicating that it has applied for a
water augmentation plan or substitute supply plan with the Office of the State Engineer. Therefore, this
problem is not considered to be resolved and Park County must still supply proof that it is authorized to
have exposed groundwater at the i ite.
I & E Contact Ac
NAME:
OPERATOR:
STREET:
CITY/STATE/ZIP:
Cc: ^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ SE WMD (CH)

^ WQCD (CH)
X Other: Harry Posey, DMG
I
