... <br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the <br />inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or <br />evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br />This partial inspection of the King Coal Mine was conducted by Wally Erickson from <br />the DMG Durango Office, 484 Turner Drive, Building F, Suite 101, Durango, CO <br />81301, phone (970) 247-5469. Operations were active during the time of this <br />inspection. Tom Bird not available to accompany the DMG inspector. <br />Signs & Markers -Mine identification sign and safety signs were posted at the mine <br />entrance.' Permit boundary markers were observed. Public access is controlled by gate <br />and fence, gate was open. <br />Roads -Mine entrance road and access roads were well maintained. Mine entrance <br />road drainage conveyance swale was intact. <br />Soil conditions were wet from recent precipitation events. Trash was buying in the <br />burn pit. <br />Hydrologic Balance -Affected area drainage was conveyed to one of the two sediment <br />ponds for treatment. Sediment containment ditches and culverts appeared functional. <br />Large sediment pond was holding water approximately 2.75' depth. Primary and <br />secondary spillways appeared stable and clear of debris, debris screen was intact for <br />the primary spillway. No discharge noted. Overflow pipe, 0.6' PVC pipe installed to <br />convey overflow from the large sediment pond to the smaller sediment pond, was <br />intact and clear, no evidence of overflow being conveyed. Pond embankment <br />appeared stable, evidence of seeping, slumping, or erosion was not observed. <br />Small sediment pond was holding water, approximately 3' depth, no discharge noted. <br />Primary and secondary spillways appeared stable and clear of debris. Embankment <br />was well vegetated and stable. <br />
