III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the <br />inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or <br />evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br />This was an aerial inspection of the New Horizon Mine conducted by Harry Ranney of the <br />DBMS. Aerial photographs were taken on January 16, 2007. Weather conditions were cleaz and <br />sunny at the time of the flight. Mike Boulay of the DBMS reviewed the aerial photographs. <br />Fifteen photographs were taken during the flyover. The entire mine site was visible in the <br />photographs. The site was snow covered. Equipment was active in the pit area. No problems <br />were noted in any of the aerial photographs. <br />Roads <br />Most of the mine site roads were clear of snow cover and appeazed well maintained and in good <br />condition. <br />Hydrologic Balance <br />Sedimentation Ponds 007, 008, 009, and 012 were visible in the photographs. All of the <br />sedimentation ponds were snow covered. Ponds 009 and 012 did not appeaz to be retaining <br />water. Ponds 007 and 008 were both retaining significant amounts of water. Pond inlets and <br />embankments appeared stable. No problems were noted at any of these sediment pond locations. <br />Support Facilities <br />The shop, wazehouse and storage areas were viewed. From the photos, these facilities and <br />perimeter azeas of the site appeazed to be maintained and no problems were identified. <br />
