III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during
the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the
facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the Cazbon Junction Mine conducted by Tom Gillis of CDMG. Mike
Savage, a consultant for the operator, was present during the field portion of the inspection. The mine site
was slightly wet due to rainfall, but all roadways were passable. The operator has contracted with a nearby
sand & gravel company, C & J Gravel Products, Inc. to begin final reclamation of the site. The contractor
has completed mobilization of equipment and backfilling & grading work was underway at the time ofthe
inspection. The large ephemeral drainage located between the two pit areas is being re-established, and
installation of culverts (2-48 in. CMP) under the paved access road is already complete. Riprap placement
around the outlet end was in progress at the time ofthe inspection.
Roads
The routine ditch & culvert maintenance work referenced in previous inspection reports should be taken
care of within the next couple of weeks now that a contractor is on site. Specific areas requiring
maintenance were evaluated with the operator's consultant.
Hydro-oeic Balance
The mine's sediment control system was inspected to make sure that all runoff from areas disturbed during
final reclamation have adequate sediment control. Runoff from all disturbances is being adequately routed
to the appropriate sediment pond via collection ditches, culverts & berms.
