During the June 19, 2006 inspection DBMS noted <br />Diffuse Kmpweed (Centaurea diffuse) and Seotch Thistle (Onopordum tauricum) as <br />being preveleat around the North, South, and F.avt perimeter of the site. The Division <br />noted the problem (Rule 3.1.100) and directed submittal and implementation of a Weed <br />COntI01 TechrtiCal Revis100. (TR). <br />During a subsequent site inspection by the Douglas County Weed Inspector (DCWI), <br />Jonathan Rife, at the Stevens Mine on August 29, 2006, noted Canada Thistle (Cirsium <br />arveose), which is an additional noxious weed other than the weeds rented above wa4 at <br />scattered location on the Steven Mine. site. <br />This Weed Control Plan has boat developed W attempt W address all the noxious weed <br />control issues noted by DBMS end DGWJ to date. <br />IYIETHODO~QOY <br />Areas infested with the identified noxious weeds within the permit boundary will be <br />addressed by initial assessment and spraying by a centrtrctorwith appropriate experience <br />in these rnattera. The qualified contractor will deem the Uquid application(s) appropriate <br />and Acme Brick Company proposes to inform DBMS of weed coturol activities on an <br />annual basis as part of the permit Annual Report function and tequitements. <br />Acute Hack Company envision this is an amoral ongoing process during each spring to <br />control noxious weeds before they propagate during the summer season. Specific <br />management tcchoiques will be developtx~ implemented earl documented using a <br />practical mint of cultural, mechanical, biological and chemical contnuls as deemed both <br />etTec6ve and cost-effative. <br />In general, the thistles and Di@i-se It,napweed wilt probably be controlled using <br />herbicides, particularly during the leaf development stage, but beforo the flowering stage <br />in early June. Thistles and Diffuse Knapweed wiU be treated in axordance with the <br />DCWI guidance, attached. <br />Further we plan to implemem the plan as an integrated approach incotporadon addidotrel <br />weed control measures such es mowing, spot seeding, field harrowing, grazing, etc., <br />which wiU be evaluated aztd implemented in conjunction with spraying as deemed <br />appropriate in consultation with our weed control subcontractor. [f standard measures are <br />not successful in eUminating the weed control problem within a traLSOnable amount of <br />time (approximately one to four season of treatment) Acme Brick Company may contact <br />DRMS for additional assistance. <br />
