The
operator indicated that they would take measures to try to control the knapweed problem prior to disturbing this parcel.
A portion of this parcel is currently used for ranging livestock.
"Topsoil" on this parcel appears to be a thin veneer of river laid silt, marginal in fertility and structure, as evidenced by
existing vegetative stands.
A few old cottonwood trees exist on the parcel. The operator is encouraged to protect these trees, when they are located
along the proposed pit perimeter. A buffer zone at least equal to 1.5 times the tree's crown size is recommended.
A small excavated pit exists near the south central part of this parcel. The operator indicated that the landowner had
allowed excavation of this pit far use on the property. The pit is approximately 60 feet square.
The north east corner of the parcel is located on the outside bank of a curve in the Gunnison River. This section of
riverbank has been subject to erosion in the recent past. The river bank is currently a near vertical cut bank rising
approximately 7-8 feet above the water surface. This section is of concern to the Division. Erosion of this section of river
could cause the river to relocate it's channel through the pit. The operator will need to address, in the amendment
application, measures to be taken to stabilize this section of riverbank and prevent additional erosion of this bank. The
stabilization plan must include engineering demonstrations that indicate the proposed measures will be adequate to stabilize
the site.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to:
Division of Minerals and Geology, 701 Camino Del Rio, Room 125, Durango, Colorado 81301, Attn: Steve Shuey, phone
no. 970-247-5062.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Mike Rioo
OPERATOR Delta Sand and Gravel
STREET P.
