• •
w ~
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #
INSPECTION DATE 12 08 99
(Page 2) ~ •
M-90-143
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS AJW
This was a normal monitoring inspection conducted by Tony Waldron of DMG along with Donald
Looper of DFC Ceramics. The site is located approximately 12 miles northwest of Pueblo,
Colorado and just inside of the Fort Carson Military Reservation in typical sandstone uplands
country. The pit is located on a small mesa type outcrop approximately 10 acres is size and
dissected by small drainages on the east, north and west sides and falling away into a larger
regional drainage on the south side. The clay deposit is sandwiched between the capstone and
other underlying layers of clay and shale. Mining has primarily occurred along the south
side of the outcrop with a total disturbance of approximately one acre,
Basically the operation consists of breaking up and removing the overburden, followed by
removal and stockpiling of the clay resource. The stockpile is then removed as needed and
as mining progresses, the mined out areas are backfilled and graded. The site was properly
identified with a mine identification sign and there were several t-posts visible which serve
as boundary markers. Apparently, keeping the affected area delineated is rather difficult
as the U.S Army conducts manuvers throughout this area and vehicles are allowed to traverse
the mining area. However, the permit area is fairly well defined since it encompasses the
entire outcrop/mesa. The financial warranty for this site is $5,000 which is more than
adequate based on the current disturbance. No problems were identified and this concluded
the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Donald Looper
OPERATOR DFC Ceramics
STREET 515 S. 9th Street
CITY/STATE/ZIP Canon City.
