This was an aerial inspection, flown on May 19, 2004. The digital images were not
reviewed until June 1, 2004 due to annual leave. There were no compliance problems
observed during the overflight of the reclaimed mine site.
The aerial overflight concentrated on the hillslope area of the reclaimed mine site. The
slide just to the west of the reclaimed area continues to unravel. However, the backfilled
Bear No. 3 Mine portals and reclaimed access roads appear to be unaffected by the
slide.
There was no evidence of venting of smoke or steam from the underground mine fire
that is occurring in the vicinity of the Bear No. 3 Mine. The Division has not determined
whether the mine fire is in the Bear No. 3 Mine or in the pre-law Edwards/Clark Mine.
The vegetation on the hill side reclaimed portions of the mine site are just beginning to
come up. There were no signs of erosional gullies on the reclaimed sections of the
hillside.
c:lwordJbear3linsp0504
