(Page 2)
MINE ID / OR PROSPECTING ID ~ M-73-0]1
INSPECTION DATE 10-26-94 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS C~1{
OBSERVATIONS
This Brae a monitoring and follow up inspection of the Morrison Quarry. Attending the
inspection was Me. Kristin Epley of the Joint Budget Committee Office.
The inspection started with a quick overview of the upcoming amendment to the permit. The
operator is considering turning the finished quarry into water storage reservoir(s) for the
Town of Morrison. This would involve some additional mining to the north and east of the
present north quarry area, more mining to the west of the north quarry area to lay back the
presently completed west quarry wall and possible deepening of the central portion of the
quarry.
The quarry ie presently following the mining and reclamation plan. The east highwall failure
area has not been graded and corrective actions have not yet been taken because the operator
is working with local authorities to gain approval for more ground disturbance to the east
of the present central quarry area.
To the south of the present quarry, the operator has recently done some grade work in
preparation for continued mining to the south. The quarry will soon mine through the thalweg
of a drainage just south of the present disturbance. Overburden and fines that are sometimes
used for bench backfill have been pushed over some topsoil not yet salvaged on natural
ground. This type of activity should be avoided since topsoil ie somewhat scarce in the area
and all that ie available should be saved. As the mining operation proceeds to the south,
topsoil stripping activities in front of the active pit should maintain at least a 20 foot
buffer zone of stripped topsoil to avoid wasting any topsoil material. See PB 1.
The land area used for the Deed of Trust bond that the Division was inspected and found to
be on the southern end of the permit area. Mining of this area ie in the distant future.
The area was found to be marked ae required.
I 6 E Contact Address
NAME Mr. Mike Refer
OPERATOR Cooley Gravel Comoanv
STREET 3609 S.
