Bourg Strip
Page 2
I asked Mr. Ayres if the company had any ground water wells in the
coal or the strata below the seam being mined. He said that currently
they were not required to have any.
The company does not shoot the coal or the overburden so to date there
is no blasting records other than the public notice. They are
maintaining the notice in case the decision is made to begin blasting.
The NPDES spill prevention control plan was reviewed. No problems
noted. The Jackson County special use permit was checked in the mine
office and reviewed with the zoning commission in Walden. Again no
problems noted.
The Northgate loadout facility is about a half mile north of Cowdry,
Colorado. Sized coal is trucked from the mine to the permitted siding
and loaded onto the railcars with a front end loader. Topsoil was
removed, stockpiled and planted with temporary cover. Sediment
control for the area is adequate.
Federal coal lease applications are being made for adjacent
properties. Land adjacent to the mine on the west side has been
declared as a critical sage grouse struting ground by the BLM and the
State Game and Fish Department so the company's mining will be broken
up to exclude the area if adjacent leases are granted.
