The pond embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be
stable at the time of the inspection. There were no erosional problems on the pond
embankment.
-The rail loop pond was dry at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment
was well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. There
were no erosional problems on the pond embankment.
-The ditch from the prep plant bench to pond DP-1 appeared to be stable at the
time of the inspection. There did not appear to be any erosional problems in the
ditch.
-The ditch on the prep plant bench has been cleaned.
-The roadside ditches along the mine access road, the conveyor corridor and the
haul road to the refuse pile appeared to be stable and well maintained.
- The ditches along the road to the slot storage area were stable and well
maintained.
-The SAE's at the Return Shafts all appeared to be functioning as designed.
- The post-mining channels at the East Portal area were all stable at the time of the
inspection. The channels are filling in with vegetation.
-The silt fence at the East Portal area is in place as required. The silt fence is properly
installed and appears to be functioning properly.
Backfilling and Grading: The East Portal area remained stable at the time of the
inspection. There were no erosional problems at the site. Bat grafes have been
installed on both of the two historic mine entries at the site.
Processing Waste: Refuse Pile RP-1 was well vegetated and appeared to be stable at
the time of the inspection.
- Refuse Pile RP-2/3/4 is currently being used for refuse disposal. There were
approximately 4 truckloads of refuse waiting to be spread and compacted at the
east side of the pile. There was no water pooling on the top of the pile and there did
not appear to be any springs or seeps coming from the pile. Much of the gullying on
the east and north sides of the pile has been repaired. There is a "berm" of refuse
along the outer edge of the pile that needs to be graded and blended with the rest
of the pile so water does not pool behind it.
- Refuse from the temporary stockpile is being spread on Refuse Pile RP-5a by four
scrapers, although they were not spreading refuse at the time of the inspection.
Approximately 75% of the stockpile has been spread and compacted. Scott
Wanstedt said he believed that the spreading of the refuse would be completed
some time in August. The pile appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection.
There was no water pooling on the top of the pile and there did not appear to be
any springs or seeps coming from the pile.
Support Facilities: Return Shafts 1, 2 and 3 and the B-Vent shaft were all inspected.
The pads were all stable and in good condition at the time of the inspection. There
were no erosional problems noted at any of the shafts.
Fish & Wildlife: There were two deer by the outfall of pond DP-1 at the time of the
inspection.
