CO 80203
Subject: Bear River Gravel Pit (your reference #M1986040)
Carl,
RECEIVED
MAR 13 2002
pivision of Minerals and Geology
In regard to my telephone conversations with your associate, Tom Schreiner, a couple of weeks
ago, this letter serves to confirm Routt County's concern about the status of the above mentioned
gravel pit. Routt County considers that this operation has anon-conforming use status limited to
the permit granted to Cass Weber from the Mined Land Reclamation Board in 1977, permit
number 77-519. The site is not operating under a Special Use Permit from Routt County.
It appears that the operation is inactive and that the site generally is in poor condition. Equipment
sits idle, stockpiles remain untouched and covered with weeds. The site is highly visible from
U.S. Highway 40. It is unknown if any gravel has been removed from the site in recent years.
Accordingly, we feel the site should be reclaimed since no mining activity has occurred.
Given the nature of this operation, would you please advise this office as to the status and/or
process under which the CDMG may require final reclamation of this site. Your assistance in this
matter is greatly appreciated.
If you have any questions regarding our comments, call me at (970) 879-2704.
Res ectfully,
G-~~
im Goossens
Staff Planner
Routt County Planning Department
Cc: Board of County Commissioners
County Manager
