King IDitches - The rock-lined 100-year cleaz-water ditch on the east side of the King I facilities azea
was in good shape. The inlet to the clean water culvert on the south end of the King I facilities area
was clear. The swale in the haul road and the swale on the east side of the east pond were in place.
Sediment traps on the sides of the main haul neaz the mine entrance were in good repair, having
recently had sediment removed.
King II Ditches -Part of the clean water ditch has been constructed along the west side of the surface
disturbance. Rock for riprap is stockpiled and ready for installation in the ditch. It appeared that all
runoff from the disturbed azea would either flow to the sediment pond, or is in a small area exemption
that has alternative sediment control in place.
Monitoring Wells - The steel enclosure on the wellhead of the Wiltze alluvial monitoring well
appeared to be in good condition. The housing of the King II alluvial well appeared in good shape, as
seen from County Road 120.
Processing Waste
The waste pile at King I showed no evidence of structural instability. The top surface of the pile was
dry and it slopes gently back, away from the face of the pile, as designed. The face of the pile has been
gullied by a recent storm. One of the operator's representatives explained that the face will be
regraded after it dries out.
Suaaort Facilities
King I -Fuel tanks in the surface facilities area showed no signs of leaks or spills, and have adequate
spill barriers in place. No problems were found in the surface facilities area.
King II -Other than earthwork and the pond, no structures have been constructed or installed,
although structures are being built. A temporary office trailer was on site. Earthwork for the surface
facilities azea of this new mine began in March 2007. Structures are now being installed immediately
north of the pond. Three portals have been developed since the last complete inspection in June 2007.
One of the operator's representatives explained that entries have been driven approximately 300 feet
from the portals, so far. Waste rock was being brought out of the portals and stockpiled a short
distance away. A truck hauls the waste rock to the King I site where it is incorporated into the waste
pile.
Topso~I
King I -Growth medium for this prelaw site is stockpiled south of the waste pile.
King II -Topsoil continues to be removed and is being stockpiled on the west side of the pond, as
approved.
General Mine Plan Comaliance
No problems were found on the King I and II Mines. Operations appeared to comply with the
approved mine plan. Underground operations and surface disturbances appeared to be confined to the
areas in the approved mine plan.
4
