(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #_
INSPECTION DATE_
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRM
This inspection was preformed as part of the normal monitoring program established by the Colorado Division of Minerals and
Geology. The JD-7 Pit is located approximately 13 miles west of Naturita, Colorado south of State Highway 90, iri Paradox
Valley. Mr. Glen Williams, the operator s representative, was present for the inspection.
The JD-7 Pit is permitted for 490 acres. The pit is approved for intermittent status. The pit has had little or no activity since the
last inspection on 2/24/99.
The mine identification. sign and affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with Rule 3.1.12. The sign is
at the main entrance which has locked gates to control access. All roads were maintained and in good repair.
No significant erosion is noted within the pit. There has been some minor sloughing of loose_materials, however the main 60
highwalls appear to be stable. An area noted along the south edge during the 99 report does not appear to have moved any _
mare than originally noted.
The OVB stockpiles are covered by rabbit brush, four-wing salt brush and various grasses and fortis. Deer, elk and cattle
tracks were noted in the area. The vegetation is doing well despite the lack of precipitation the past season. Musk Thistle was
observed alohg the access path to the top of these piles. This issue is not being considered a problem as the operator has an
active weed control program for all the permitted sites. The thistle will be treated some time this growing season as time
allows.
Topsoil areas area covered with various grasses and appear to be well protected from erosion and other damage
No unnecessary trash or debris was noted in the area. No equipment was noted on site. There was no fuel tanks or other
hazardous materials noted.
No sedimentation or storm water issues were noted. The operator has constructed diversion ditches and other features to
control ruh on and run off and all appear to be working as designed. No damage or off site issues were observed.
The Financial Warranty was reviewed extensively in late 1999. Because no new disturbance or major changes have occurred
the bond appears to be adequate at this time. The Division holds $100:00 in bond, while the Department of Energy holds
$1,206,000.00. Both amounts total more than the estimate approved in 2/00.
No other issues or problems were noted
Responses ro this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3'" Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no. 970-241-1117.
18 E Contact Address
NAME Glen Williams
OPERATOR Cotter Corporation
STREET P.O.
