The main
purpose of the inspection was to collect quarterly water samples for wad cyanide analysis
from the two 24 inch under drain pipee.Since the Leak Detection trench and sump systems
never functioned ae designed, due to influences from surface water peculating and expressing
itself ae ground water in these sumps, the Division has relied on collecting and analyzing
water samples from these under drains to make sure, that there is no leak from the Valley
Leach facility to date, all the samples analyzed from these under drains had been in
compliance with the approved permit condition of 0.5 ppm wad cyanide. For the moat part, in
particular samples collected from the South Haet Under drain discharge have been below
detection limit. Some samples collected from the South West Under drain ( also referred to as
the North IInder drain by CC&V)only a trace of Wad Cyanide has been detected Since the moat
likeliest place for a leak from the Valley Leach Facility to express itself will be in the
Under drains,In addition to the operators weakly sampling of these under drains, the Division
has been collecting quarterly samples from these discharges, since the commencement of
processing solutions, in early 95. Two liter samples one of each from the South Hast and
South West ( referred to the North Under drain) by CC&V WHRH COLLECTED WITH A SPLIT TAKEN BY
THE OPHRATOR.Samp les were preserved iced and delivered to CDOH&E LAB the same day.
While on site, inspected the small sediment control pond that was placed west of the crusher
to replace the one located Eet of the crusher The area where the old pond was located ie
now part of the new haul road. The new pond is incised with in the 100year 24 hour diversion
ditch and ie approximately sized to handle 1.5 acre feet of water. Since it ie incised with
in the existing diversion, and inside the affected area, no additional warranty was deemed
neceseary.Inepected the Phase II low volume and high volume collection system area and
recorded the following readings from the High and Low volume transducers.
HIGH VOLUME PUMP #4 READ 25,2 FHHT OF HHAD, PUMP#5 RHAD 18.2 FHHT OF HHAD AND #6 RHAD 22.2
FHHT OF HHAD. LOW VOLUMH PUMP #1 RHAD .43 AND #2 RHAD .19. Mr.HStes was notified to watch the
High Volume Pump # 4 beacuse it never always had read at or below even pump #5. Pump #6 was
the one that usually reads the highest. He agreed to do so and leave a message if a problem
was noted. Inspected the Phase III area. The LDS#4 pipe extension is now complete. The 3 feet
concrete ae approved in the field has been poured in the Boylan shaft. No problem noted.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: SCOTT LEWIS
OPERATOR; CC6V
STREET :P.O.BOX 191
CITY/STATE/:VICTOR, C0.80860
^ HMWhID (CH)
cc: James Stevens
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
