III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations
made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was an aerial inspection of the Seneca II-W mine site. Harry Ranney of the DMG took the
photos on December 27, 2000. Skies were clear; the ground was snow covered.
It appears as though dragline mining is completed in A pit. The 770 dragline is mining in the south
extension area along the eastern edge. The buffer along the eastern border is very narrow, it is
difficult to tell the distance between the disturbed area and undisturbed area. It is important to
maintain a buffer along this pit area to avoid disturbance in the undisturbed areas.
Auger operations will continue in the A pit, but the auger was not clear in the photographs. It
appears to be about 2/3 of the way up the pit. No haul trucks were seen in the photos.
The mine entrance road and Haul Road H have been cleared, but Haul Road I has not. There is no
apparent activity off of the I road. The coal haul road north of the A pit has been used.
Pond 006, the B pit pre-settling basin and Pond 016 were observed from the photos. Both are snow
covered and appear to be frozen.
Several trucks and equipment are visible in the shop area.
Copies of all the photos were e-mailed to the operator. Select photos are attached to this inspection
report.
