MINE ID ~ OR PROSPECTING ID # M-77-071
INSPECTION DATE 03/17/99
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
This was a pre-operation inspection of the Half Moon Pit conducted by Erica Crosby of the
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology. Steve Kleeberger was present during a portion of
the inspection. Weather conditions on site were cool and clear.
Lake County Commissioners filed a complete conversion application for the site on January 27,
1999. Filing of the conversion application was a result of the October 15, 1998 inspection
and notice of violation MV-99-001 issued by the Mined Land Reclamation Hoard on January 26,
1999. The conversion application will increases the permit area from 9.9 acres to 23.60
acres.
The mine site is located 6 ~ miles southwest of Leadville. Amine sign was posted at the
mine entrance, identifying the filing of a conversion application. The permit boundary will
expand to the north. The permit boundary borders property owned by Paul Moltz to the south.
Lake County owns the remainder of the adjacent property. Only one manmade structure is
located within 200 feet of the affected area. The Templeton Ditch is located 65 feet from
the southwest corner of the site. The location of the ditch and necessary compensation
agreements is located in the application.
To date, the site consists of a working pit area, subsoil piles, topsoil piles and a working
area containing an asphalt batch plant. No mining activity was taking place during the
inspection. No ground water was noted in the pit, and the operator does not anticipate
intersecting groundwater.
The application is currently under review, and the Division's decision due date is April 20,
1999.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Kent Haver
OPERATOR Lake County
STREET P.O.
