Colowyo C-1981-019 /~
22 August 2007 G~~/
Pg 7/7
General Mine Plan Compliance (cont.): -The Kiewit project was progressing nicely.
Kiewit is making a large bench for a water tank (for watering the roads, ultimately)
and aready-line for the haul trucks, since the other one is north of the East and West
Pits. The area appears to be stable and well compacted. During the inspection, all
of the Kiewit trucks were driving in circles over the pad, evidently ensuring proper
compaction. **See pictures at the end of this report.
-The mining at the Colowyo Mine appears to be progressing as discussed and
approved in the PAP.
Air Resource Protection: -All of the areas of the current Colowyo Mine were well
compacted and stable at the time of the inspection. There have also been some
rains in the afternoons so there was not a problem with fugitive dust on the mine site
at the time of the inspection. There were also no problems with fugitive dust at the
coal stockpile at the Gossard Loadout.
- The Bower project was actively watering their area and also limiting the fugitive dust
to the extent possible.
- The Kiewit project area was also well watered and in good condition at the time of
the inspection. There was not a problem with fugitive dust this inspection.
Excess Spoil: -The reclaimed portions of the West Pit spoil pile were well vegetated
and appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. Runoff from this portion of
the pile goes into the West Pit pond. No erosional problems were noted of the pile at
the time of the inspection. The upper portion of the pile is truck-dumped spoil. This
part of the pile appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. The reclamation
plan calls for the top 75 feet of this pile to be hauled to the West Pit to achieve AOC.
-The Streeter fill was appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. No
erosional problems were noted on the fill. This pile has gone through a Phase II bond
release. The fill was well vegetated at the time of the inspection.
-The Section 16 fill was appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. No
erosional problems were noted on the fill. This pile has gone through a Phase II bond
release. The fill was well vegetated at the time of the inspection.
Overall, the operations and reclamation at the Colowyo Mine are being conducted
in accordance with the approved plans contained within the PAP. The operation is
doing a good job ensuring compliance with all of the Rules.
