Colowyo C-1981-019
22 August 2007 E_ f~
Pg 3/7
Hydrologic Balance (cont.): -The East Taylor Pond (NPDES Ol OA) was dry and was not
discharging at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment was well
vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. No erosional
problems noted on the embankment at the time of the inspection. The emergency
spillway is an open, trapezoidal riprapped channel. The spillway was stable and well
maintained at the time of the inspection. There was a doe and her fawn on the road
below the pond.
-The Stoker Siding Pond (NPDES 005A) was not inspected due to the rain.
-The Prospect Pond (NPDES 007A) did not contain any water and was only muddy in
the bottom of the pond at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment was
well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. No
erosional problems noted on the embankment at the time of the inspection. The
emergency spillway is an open, trapezoidal riprapped channel. The spillway was
stable and well maintained at the time of the inspection. Colowyo estimates that
there is approximately 4,000 yards of material in the pond that will be cleaned out
this year. They are also looking at using some of the sediment as "borrow" for the
construction of the Section 28 Pond embankment. If this option is pursued, lab test
will need to be performed to verify its suitability for use in the embankment.
-The Gulch A Pond (NPDES 004A) contained a small pool of water, approximately six
feet below the discharge pipe and was not discharging at the time of the inspection.
The pond embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time
of the inspection. No erosional problems noted on the embankment at the time of
the inspection. The emergency spillway is an open, trapezoidal riprapped channel.
The spillway was stable and well maintained at the time of the inspection.
Goodspring Creek was flowing at the time of the inspection.
- The Streeter Pond (NPDES 001 A) contained water approximately eighteen inches
below the discharge pipe and was discharging through the weep hole at the time of
the inspection. The discharge appeared to be clear. The pond embankment was
well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. No
erosional problems noted on the embankment at the time of the inspection. In last
month's inspection report I stated that the operator is having problems with the
muskrats again trying to block the weep hole to keep the water in the pond and that
Colowyo was going to place mesh wire around the riser pipe to keep the muskrats
from blocking the hole (as related by the operator). This work will not be performed
and the only work that will be performed is cleaning the dirt/debris from around the
discharge pipe and weep hole.
-The Section 16 Pond (NPDES 009) contained a small pool of water below the bottom
of the riser pipe. The pond embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be
stable at the time of the inspection. The emergency is a riprapped, open channel.
The spillway appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. No erosional
problems were noted on the pond embankment at the time of the inspection.
