III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of Minerals
and Geology. This former underground mine is reclaimed. Remaining buildings and
structures are approved to remain as permanent structures. Ground conditions were
extremely dry due to three weeks of no precipitation. The weather was cool and breezy on
this morning.
Roads
Rock has been added at the road crossing, eliminating the drainage problem noted in the
early March inspection. The mine access road appeared in excellent condition and the road
surface was smooth and free of rutting or damage.
Processing Waste
The 100-year ditch above the refuse pile was traversed along its entire length. Armored
sections are holding up well and vegetated sections shown no sign of erosion or excess
siltation at this time. Outslopes of the refuse pile showed no sign of damage or erosion.
Vegetation remains mostly dormant, although very small grass plants were visible in drill
rows on the material cleaned from the sediment pond.
Revegetation
The growing season is lust beginning due to warming temperatures. Western wheatgrass
and cicer milkvetch are sprouting site-wide. Cattle or evidence of grazing were not observed
on the reclamation.
Overall, the site appeared in normal condition for the early spring season.
