Activities are occurring as specified in the operation's an-1ua1 reports. <br />Mining is not progressing as fast as envisioned in permit due to poor demand <br />(ie.: poor economic climate) in Grand Junction. <br />2. Operator is doing excellent job of blending areas mined in with <br />surrounding, undisturbed areas. Once revegetated, these areas should be <br />unmistaken for surrounding areas not mined. <br />~ 3. Operator has spent money and effort in revegetating an area with no <br />success at all. Operator is discussing problem with experts in area to <br />resolve problem. One option being considered is to mulch the site to retain <br />moisture. <br />4. Mining pit no longer being dewatered due to economic conditions. Only <br />activities occurring at site is removal from existing stockpiles. <br />5. Operator included a number of pre-law disturbed sites into peemit and is <br />reclaiming these areas along with other areas due to mining method. <br />6. Proposed site to be permitted by Rudy Fontanari (M-85-O10) is within this <br />permit area. Operator has submitted an objection letter (February 25, 1985) <br />which was forwarded to Mr. Fontanari. To date, operator has not heard from <br />Mr. Fontanari. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />1. The Division is encouraged by the grading and sloping activities occurring <br />at the site. Please keep the Division abreast of any future revegetation <br />attempts. <br />2. Please keep the Division abreast of any contacts and resolutions that may <br />be worked out with Mr. Fontanari. <br />3.
