III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
Revegetation
The mine site has received significant snow and rain during the past winter and this spring and as
a result, the vegetation generally looked very green and well established in most areas of the site.
Site grasses came in very well this year. Some troublesome weeds were noted at various
locations. Hounds Tongue in particulaz was present at the Pond 004 embankment and around the
fenced shrub plot. Please continue to monitor and control weed species in accordance with the
approved Weed Management Plan.
The shrub plot and surrounding area was inspected. Inside the fence, shrubs are visibly denser
and more well-established. On the outside of the fenced area, the west side of the shrub plot has
more well-established shrubs than on the east side. This is due to topsoil replacement on the
west side of the fence as opposed to no topsoil replacement on the east side of the fence.
Significant erosion is occurring down through the center of the shrub plot on the east side where
no topsoil was replaced.
Post-mine Channel PM-8 located southeast of the shrub plot area is showing signs of increased
erosion at the head of the channel. A plan (Technical Revision No. 41) has been developed for
stabilizing the erosion that is occumng in the East Wadge Pit area including PM-8. The DRMS
issued its proposed decision to approve TR-41 on June 11, 2007. SCC should implement the
plan to repair and reconstruct PM-8 once TR-41 becomes final (following the termination of the
ten-day public comment period).
