' flowed over the flotation discharge tank onto the floor, and some went out
the door. To correct this problem, we installed a standpipe that would drain
the overflow into the tailings pond should the tailings pond pump ever
' develop electrical or mechanical problems. Exhibits I and T
I demonstrated this system to Bob Mason of Gold Hill Mining and
Environmental Committee {GHMEC), and he agreed that it was working at the
time.
On the southwest corner of the tailings pond, one of my employees
' attempted to glue a schedule 80 coupler to two ends of a schedule 40 pipe.
When we turned the pump on to pump water down to the Hazel A mine, the
coupler came apart. We immediately shut the pump off, and only a few
' gallons of decanted water spilled on the ground. Mr. York-Fiern, of the MLRD,
and I observed a gray, sandy material on the ground. He feels that these are
tailings that spilled on the ground. I don't believe they are tailings, because
the water at that point and that time of the break, was very clear. I invite
the Board to examine page 11 of the amended Cash mine permit, and pay
particular attention to the 4th paragraph, the sentence, "A geologic
' examination of the surficial soil overlying the bedrock in this location
revealed a tYiin mantle of soil between 3 and 6 inches in thickness. TYiis dark
grey, very gravelly, sandy loam was delivered from the weathering of the
' underlying Boulder Creek granite, and it contains no transported material."
Exhibit Q
' However, to make an error on the side of safety, we propose to gick
up that patch in question, and place it in the tailings pond at the appropriate
time. We will then reclaim that area in accordance with the permit. To
prevent this from happening again, we have changed the coupler and drilled
and tapged, using self-tapping screws.
In the locating of the monitoring wells, please refer to Map E2 and
' Colorado Division of Water Resources. Exhibit R
We commenced operation of the mill about the third week of
' November, which means our quaterly report is due this week. Prior to our
starting the mill, we collected and made a composite water sample for
background information. Exhibit S

1 8. Ditch has been cleaned out.
