(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #M-1981-058
INSPECTION DATE 9-3-02
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRM
This inspection was preformed as part of the normal monitoring program established by the Colorado Division of Minerals and
Geology. The De Beque Gravel Pit is a 112c permitted site located southwest of De Beque, Colorado beside the Colorado
River. The 112c permitted site has not been activated. Discussions with the operator indicate that a contractor may be ready
to open the pit in the very near future. The operator did not accompany the inspector on the site visit.
The mine identification sign and affected area boundary markers were not observed and must be installed per the requirements
of Rule 3.1.12 that state:
1) The operator shall post a sign at the entrance to the mine site which shall be clearly visible from the access road and
specify the following:
a) The name of the operator;
b) indicate that a reclamation permit for the operation has been issued by the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board;
c) the permit number.
2) The boundaries of the affected area will be marked by monuments or other markers that are clearly visible and adequate
to delineate such boundaries.
The lack of an identification sign and boundary markers is not noted as a problem due to no activity on the site. However.
before any excavation takes place the proper signage and boundary markers must be installed.
No disturbance was noted. The area is a mixture of agricultural fields and cottonwood reparian areas.
A review of the bond in 1998 indicated that the $11,200.00 bond in place was sufficient. That update stated: should activities
on sfte begin, an increase in the bond to $21,833.00 would be required. An update of that bond recalculation (attached) shows
a slight increase to $23,311.00. The required surety bond that will be required upon activation is $23.371.00.
No other issues are noted at this time.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no. 970-241-1117.
I& E Contact Address
NAME Thomas Latham
OPERATOR Thomas Latham
STREET P.O.
