A site inspection of the Meckelberg Pit No. 1 was conducted as part of the Division's on-going 4-year inspection
program. Present during the inspection was Mr. Paul Like of Yuma County Road & Bridge Department.
2. The Meckelberg Pit No. 1 is an active pit and one of Yuma County's main sources of aggregate materials. This
inspector estimated a current disturbance of approximately 15-20 acres with overburden and product stockpiles as well as
pit slopes ranging from 1:1 to 3:1, The operator has done a good job of maintaining an adequate setback from the
intermittent drainage that runs through the center of the permit area. The depth of excavation at the time of inspection
was estimated to be 20' below ground surface, There was no evidence of exposed groundwater. The permit boundary
was well marked and the existing disturbances were found to be well within the 160 acre permit boundary. The site will
ultimately be reclaimed to general agriculture. Photographs of the site are attached to this report.
3. Mr. Like confirmed that both stipulations associated with the Division's September 28, 1994 amendment approval have
been cleared by Environment Inc. These stipulations pertain to a cultural resource survey and a wetland survey. Please
see attached Division correspondence dated April 7, 2004. The determination of a completed wetland survey being
incorporated into the permit file is still under review by the Division.
4. Signs and boundary markers are in place.
5. There were no problems noted.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Mr. Paul Like
OPERATOR: Yuma County
STREET: ]31n S.
