~ (Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #
INSPECTION DATE: April ~~. 7001 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS
OBSERVATIONS
This was a complete inspection of the operation done by Carl Mount and Gregg Squire of the Division of
Minerals and Geology. Jim Striggow of Stone W holesale Corporation requested the inspection to check
permitting possibilities that would allow changes in the operation of the mine.
Stone Wholesale is thinking of mining a layer of sandstone approximately 20 to 30 feet lower than the layer that
is now being mined for saw blocks. This would require an amendment to the permit to deal with such problems
as the physical and chemical nature of the waste material, logistics of placement of the volume of waste
material involved, methods of reclamation of the waste, stability of the surrounding excavated rock layers
(highwalls), and investigation of possible problems with the nearby irrigation ditch in relationship to the quarried
area. The last possible problem mainly had to do with whether the jointing in the rock layers would allow water
being transported in the ditch to enter an excavated quarry.
The quarry operation has now disturbed approximately 6 to 7 acres. There is approximately 2 acres on the
farthest south end of the ridge being mined that has not been disturbed by this mining operation. The operator
discussed the possibility of getting this part of the quarry permit area released (via an acreage release process)
and then adding this acreage on to the north end of the quarry permit area. The operator should refer to Rule
4.16 for notification and request procedures for acreage release. Generally, the DMG requires maps that
define the new permit area. The addition of acreage to the north could be handled under the same amendment
process that would allow mining into lower rock layers.
There were no problems noted during the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Mr. lim StriRROw
OPERATOR: Stone Wholesale Corooration
STREET: 4717 W.
