r
III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was an aerial inspection of the Trinidad Basin Mine for the month of February, 1998. The
permit was revoked and the bond is forfeit at this site.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE: Most of the site is free of any snow, only the portions with north
facing slopes have any snow remaining. Every pond in the entire permit area had water in them.
No signs of discharge was visible from any of the ponds. Pond 15-P1 is almost completely filled
in with sediment and could not possibly function as designed. The main ditch leading to the
pond appears to be filled in with sediment as well. The remainder of the ponds appear to be in
satisfactory condition.
ROADS: The access road to the southern end of the mine does not seem to have suffered
much degredation during the winter, however, the riprapped portion of the road that has been
mentioned in numerous reports will probably not be passable at the end of this summer if any
significant storm falls on the area.
