III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection, Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Joe Dudash of the Colorado DMG. No one represented the
operator during the field inspection. The site was wet and muddy due to recent precipitation event.
Road
The paved haul road was in good condition. A small tree had fallen across the road near the bottom of
the hill. The inspector moved the tree pieces to the side of the road. The cable across the road at the top
of the hill was down. The gate at the bottom of the hill was locked and the "no trespassing" sign was
on the gate.
Siens and Markers
The mine ID sign was up at the top of the hill. Surface disturbances were up around the mine site.
Hvdroloev
There was standing water in the sediment pond. The water level was about one foot below the invert of
the primary dischazge pipe. The gated primary was closed. The emergency spillway, including the
riprap, was intact. The pond embankment and inslopes were stable. The spring water treatment pond
was functioning properly. The water level was about 6 inches below the horizontal pipe. The pond was
dischazging at about 20 gpm, The discharge was the usual orange color, which has been shown to be in
compliance with receiving stream standards.
The east side spring was flowing. Most of the water was flowing into the channel but some was
trickling outside of the channel and was collecting in a small pool next to the mine office building. The
spring water channel needs to be worked on again.
There were no problems with the two alluvial wells, AA-1 and AA-3. The well caps were on and there
was no ponding of surface water azound the wells.
The protection berm between the river and the mine site was functional.
c:/word/beaz3/insp 1105
